Why Do the Project?

Most of you know what the Self-Worth Project, so let us tell you a little more about why. We had talked about doing this project a few months prior to now, but because Apple Blossom (Royalty Selection) is over, we decided that it was a good time to start the project. The Self-Worth Project allows every individual to make a statement on his or her body. We are using photography as a form of documentation to preserve the history, the history of the people at Eastmont High School. It is easy enough to see someone and never think twice about what that person has potentially struggled with. We have roughly 1,300 people in the school. And we want every single person to participate because it will bring unity to the school. To be a part of something great. To be courageous enough to admit your secrets and insecurities. It is easy enough to say no, that you do not want to participate, but then again, think about the impact you could make. This project has so much potential to change lives. We want everyone to feel important,  feel loved, and feel a sense of purpose with this cause. When the portraits are displayed in the mural, people will feel sad and sympathetic to those who have endured hardships. People will feel happy for the people who are learning to be who they are and accept themselves for them and have the courage to have participated. And people will realize that they have much more in common with other students than they think. Many people have endured the same or similar situations or felt the same insecutiries. And hopefully, people will realize that we are all much more alike than we are different. And we should not discriminate against each other for our faults, but rather accept each other and love every individual.

And remember:
You are special. You are important. You are never alone. You are loved.

The Project

So here at Eastmont High School, we are doing something called the Self-Worth Project. What you do is you write a fear, an insecurity, a secret, or whatever you like on your body! And then we take a little artsy picture of you and your word or phrase that is written on your body. Don't worry about what we write with--we just use washable markers! :) We just started the project a couple days ago and it will be an ongoing project until the end of the year. At the end of the school year, we plan to make a mural that we display on the main wall when you walk into the high school. We would absolutely love your help and participation. Yes, you will be sharing something about yourself that may be difficult. Yes, people will see your fear or insecurity. And yes, you will make a difference. Nobody should feel shy or embarrassed about participating because it is our insecurities and our fears that bring us together and we're hoping to bring unity and love to Eastmont High School with this amazing project. So if you're interested, feel free to text us, call us, find us at school, or email us at ehsselfworthproject@gmail.com
